The Cliffs of Moher are Ireland’s second most popular destination. Second only to the Guinness Factory in Dublin. It is with very good reason. They are spectacular and huge. The cliffs are about 14km long (8miles) and at their highest point there is a sheer drop of 700 feet to sea level. There are no two days the same at the cliffs. Some days it is foggy some days the sun is shining. They have their own microclimate as well as colonies of tens of thousands of birds including gannets and puffins. The Burren is a unique and beautiful region of Ireland that is worth a visit. It is a beautiful limestone plateau that is home to a variety of landscapes including caves, cliffs and rock formations. 7.30am: Departure From Dublin.
Our tour begins with a pick up and drive right across the middle of Ireland.
10.00am: First Stop At Kilmacduagh.
Kilmacduagh, an early christian monastery with a beautiful round tower in a serene setting on the edge of a regions called the Burren. This is a great opportunity to stretch the legs, get some air and take some really great photographs.
10.30am: Explore The Burren.
Next, we’ll stop further along in the middle of The Burren. The Burren is a karst region, meaning it is an exposed limestone landscape about 100 square miles. You can also take a walk on the actual Burren itself and gorgeous location where they create skin cremes, soaps and perfumes using only plants that grow in the Burren.
12pm: Visit The Cliffs of Moher.
An opportunity to walk on the cliff path right on the edge of the 14km cliff, towering 700 feet above sea level. Avoiding the crowds, our tour takes you the quieter, less visited areas of the cliffs instead of the visitor centre (unless specifically requested).
Take In The Sweet Scenery
1.30pm: Drive along the beautiful Wild Atlantic Way (WAW).
Enjoy the beautiful scenery where the mountains of the Burren sweep down to the Atlantic Ocean. Here you will see at times how ferocious the Atlantic can be.
2pm: Lunch in Doolin
Stop in a delightful, famously colourful pubs for lunch in the pitctureseque village of Doolin. From here, we’ll drive around The Black Head with views out across to the Aran Islands and Galway Bay.
4pm Dessert in Hazel Mountain Chocolate.
Visit a tiny chocolate factory and sample some truly delicious chocolate.
5.30pm: Return to Dublin
Head back towards Dublin after a memorable 12-13 hour day day. Note that all times are all approximate and depend on the group and personal preference. We are happy to make adjustments to suit to your groups personal preferences.
27 Orchids Grow In The Burren
The Burren is a karst region, meaning it is an exposed limestone landscape about 100 square miles. It is our most bio diverse region having 700 of our 1000 or so flora in Ireland. The Burren is beautiful in its own right. In April and May is orchid season. There are 27 different types of orchids that grow in the Burren. April or May is best time to see the purple orchid. You can see ancient sites such as the 6000 year old Dolme- Pol na Brone. You can also take a walk on the actual Burren itself and gorgeous location where they create skin cremes, soaps and perfumes using only plants that grow in the Burren.
